Education is one of the main objectives behind the restoration of Stonewall Manor, with the goal of teaching and interpreting the planter lifestyle in the early 19th century as well as the Federal architecture that makes up Stonewall Mansion.  We are seeking an active outreach program that will offer a variety of different opportunities for students of all ages and any other members of the community that would like to partake.  We offer a number of educational resources:

  • A fully restored and furnished historic home, circa 1830
  • Period dated artifacts and photographs
  • Classroom capacity for on-site instruction of up to 35 people
  • Meeting room capacity of up to 35 people
  • On-site picnic facilities
  • Staff ready to serve public schools and educational groups

We are searching for volunteers who would like to participate in Living History Days as well as teach workshops that will shed light on what it was like to live in the 1830’s.  Some of these workshops will include:

  • Bee Keeping
  • Weaving
  • Quilting
  • Butter Churning
  • Candle Making
  • Needle Point

For more information on these workshops and volunteer opportunities, please contact Lauren Filliettaz at 252-442-0063 or email stonewalllf@embarqmail.com.
